Arsenal have signed winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea in a £52m deal, with the 23-year-old penning a five-year contract. Madueke becomes Arsenal’s fourth major signing of the summer as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attack. The England international, who scored 11 goals for Chelsea last season, brings versatility and Premier League experience to the squad.
Arsenal have officially announced the signing of England international Noni Madueke from London rivals Chelsea, in a deal worth £48 million ($64.6m) plus £4 million in add ons. The 23 year old winger has signed a five year contract with the Gunners, marking one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer window.
The move comes after weeks of negotiations led by Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, who has been instrumental in revamping the squad. Madueke becomes Arsenal’s fourth senior signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Nørgaard, and Martín Zubimendi, as manager Mikel Arteta looks to build a side capable of challenging for the Premier League title.
In his first statement as an Arsenal player, Madueke expressed his excitement and pride at joining the club:
“I've just been relaxed, waiting for the green light, and when I came in today, it all felt real. I'm really happy and really proud, so it's a great moment for me. It's great to go back home, be with my mum and dad. I know my mum misses me in the house,” he said.
The winger also shared his eagerness to contribute to Arteta’s project:
“It's already a great team with a clear identity and I can't wait to bring my style to the team and try and help the boys as much as possible to take that next step.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has long been an admirer of Madueke’s talent and revealed that the club had considered signing him last year.
“At just 23, Noni already brings experience of club and international football, and he knows the Premier League very well,” Arteta said in a club statement.
“Having seen the quality of Noni's performances up close in recent seasons, we're really excited he is joining us.”
Madueke enjoyed a strong 2024/25 season with Chelsea, registering 11 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions. His fitness record, technical quality, and versatility were seen as key factors in Arsenal’s decision to push for his signing.
While Madueke’s natural position is right wing, where he will compete with Bukayo Saka, he has proven effective on the left flank as well, giving Arteta more tactical flexibility.
Sporting director Andrea Berta highlighted the significance of the signing:
“Noni’s performance numbers and availability over recent seasons have been exceptional, reflecting his quality and professionalism. He is a dynamic, versatile wide forward with strong technical ability who will significantly strengthen our squad.”
Madueke joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the Blues’ most promising attackers. However, Chelsea’s squad overhaul and Arsenal’s aggressive summer approach paved the way for his move across London.
For Madueke, who was born in Barnet and started his youth career with Crystal Palace and Tottenham, joining Arsenal is somewhat of a homecoming. His pace, creativity, and ability to take on defenders are expected to add a new dimension to Arsenal’s already potent attack.
The signing of Madueke underlines Arsenal’s determination to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool in the title race. With Berta leading the recruitment strategy, the Gunners have focused on players with proven Premier League experience and the ability to make an immediate impact.
With Madueke now on board, Arsenal could still make one or two additions before the window closes, particularly in defense and midfield, as Arteta seeks depth across all competitions.
Madueke is expected to join up with his new teammates immediately and could make his unofficial debut during Arsenal’s pre-season friendly this weekend. Fans are already eager to see how he links up with Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Martin Ødegaard in Arsenal’s attacking setup.
